My name is John Wunderlich, and I'm an 'evangelist' for the effective use of technology and the appropriate use of information - especially personal information. The personal information that I’m willing to share is that I'm a jazz fan who likes to take pictures from time to time (hence the photo link above). I live in Toronto, with my partner and a quantumly indeterminate number of cats.
Effective use of technology can ensure the effective delivery of organizational goals while still ensuring the protecting the privacy of individuals AND the security of the data. In fact, I would argue that unless privacy and security are demonstrable, it is unlikely that an organization is as effective in leveraging its information assests as it could be.
- Six Sigma can be used to in service as well as manufacturing processes, which means that it can be used for security and privacy enhancing process improvements. The resulting metrics can feed into dashboards or balanced scorecards for compliance or audit purposes. I have been trained as a Six Sigma Black Belt and have run Six Sigma projects for process improvement using DMAIC methodologies.
- Privacy in an organization usually means the protection of personal information, which requires policies, procedures, and processes in support of that goal. I am a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and have been certified as a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C).
- Security requires the assurance that the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information resources are maintained. I am a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Assocation (ISACA) and have been certified as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Why 'Yet Another Home Page'?
I found that I needed a sandbox for some of the things that I have been thinking about trying lately. Technology continues to be, for many, a goal in itself rather than a means to an end. I'll be the first to admit that it can be a fun means, but it ain't the goal folks! That being said, my head is wired to be curious about technology and it's interface with the processes of our daily lives at work and elsewhere. This page, and the associated links will be updated intermittently, as time and motivation allow.
